Distracted driving town hall coming to Lake Norman
CHARLOTTE, NC – Hundreds of families across the state of North Carolina are impacted by distracted driving every year, and they are encouraging the North Carolina Legislature to pass a statewide cell phone ban to hopefully prevent more tragedy and loss of life.
The families of these victims invite you to hear from local and national experts about distracted driving, and examine whether changes to the state law would reduce the number of fatalities at the first of four town hall meetings StopDistractions.org will be holding across the state.
When: Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018 9:30 a.m. – Noon
Where: Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce
Presenters will include: Jennifer Smith, CEO, StopDistractions.org; North Carolina State Senator Jeff Tarte, North Carolina State House Representative Beverly Earles; Georgia State House Representative John Carson (Hands-Free Georgia bill sponsor); Captain Daniel Kydd. Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s office; Representative from the Cornelius Police Department; and representatives from insurance and other industries. Local law enforcement officers are encouraged to participate and speak on this issue as well. The committee will also hear testimony from the families of victims of distracted driving.
