Bridge closure extended on John Belk Frwy. in uptown
CHARLOTTE, NC. – Roadwork on the bridge that connects the westbound John Belk Frwy. (I-277) lanes to Wilkinson Blvd. (US74) near uptown has been extended.
The N.C. DOT now says the bridge is scheduled to reopen on Thursday April 4, 2019 and the current detour will remain in place until then.
The bridge closure has been causing a headache for motorists especially in the early afternoon and during evening rush hour. You can consider using the Brookshire Frwy. outbound to I-85 but keep in mind that is also heavily congested due to road construction.
Motorists trying to access Wilkinson Blvd. from uptown can use Freedom Dr. or I-77 southbound to West Blvd. as an alternate route.
There are full depth concrete pavement repairs and slab repairs underway and the materials need additional time to properly set and dry, according to a DOT spokesperson.
